This is me for The Cheeksters and The Mend:

And given their inflections of Brit pop (to my ear) at its finest, I think that reaction is appropriate. They’ll be at The Rocket Club tonight, starting around 9. Come one out and swoon with me. /BB

“Even if the name isn’t instantly recognizable, fans of Eric Bachmann have probably witnessed Barton Carroll’s contributions to Bachmann’s Crooked Fingers on stand-up bass, lap-steel guitar, and periodic backing vocals. The two forged a friendship over a mutual love of Bruce Springsteen while Carroll was working as Archers of Loaf’s merchandise manager and have been collaborating whenever possible ever since then. Carroll is long overdue for recognition of his own talents as a singer and a songwriter. He’s hyperintelligent and hyperliterate, but his hushed and naked delivery of dour, country-tinged yarns is infinitely accessible and down to earth. Fans of Cormac McCarthy, take note.” The Stranger-Seattle, WA.
See Barton Carroll this Thursday night at The Admiral, 400 Haywood Rd, Asheville in support of his new album, “The Lost One” on Skybucket Records.

Zeitgeist: The Film
Thursday, February 21, 7-9 PM
Free screening tonight 2/21 in Asheville and Black Mountain libraries:
Synopsis:
On August 4, 2007, the US Senate passed the Bush backed ‘spy bill.’ to preserve & expand the illegal domestic spying program. Are people now educated enough to know that such legislation has nothing to do with “Terrorism,” and everything to do with monitoring and controlling American dissent? On May 9, 2007 President Bush signed the National Security and Homeland Security Presidential Directive (NSPD-51 and HSPD-20), giving Bush near full dictatorial powers in a “National Emergency.” All that is needed is a new “9/11” such as a projectile hitting the BB&T building in Asheville, and the US Constitution no longer applies. Come to this free screening of Zeitgeist, and learn things that may not now be in your consciousness. Who are the “Bilderburgers?”

There is a 30 % chance of rain this evening in Asheville, but don’t let that stop you from trying to peek through the clouds to check out the last full lunar eclipse until 2010. The show gets started at 8:42pm and ends around 12:10am. Total eclipse should exist from 10:00pm to 10:51pm.
No protection needed (unlike those nasty solar eclipses).
